2023 wasn’t a great year- I was downsized and laid off for the first time in nearly 40 years in a profession I had worked hard to become successful, two months later my mother passed away from cancer, three months after losing my mother I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through surgery and treatment. It was a year for the record book- and not in a great way. After all I had been through, I was exhausted and decided to retire. I honestly was a little lost and struggling to regain my footing after several months of not knowing what to do with myself. I was so used to being busy working. Now what?? Etsy to the rescue!
My husband and I love to travel, and collecting a piece of art, or pottery, or some lovely memento each destination brought me a lot of joy. As a regular Etsy devotee, the thought occurred to me that I could find beautiful things and start a little shop of my own. Well….here I am a year later with a thriving retirement “hobby”that has become a passion (ok…maybe an obsession!)
I love wandering through flea markets, thrift shops, antique and consignment stories, estate sales, etc. looking for treasures I hope will bring a smile and beauty to the homes and lives of others. Maybe they are having a hard time like I did, and just the right item will make their day. Maybe they have lost a loved one and something in my shop reminds them of brighter days with them. Perhaps their grandmother or favorite aunt had one just like the item in my shop and it will bring back wonderful memories. That is my desire as I search for beautiful things is to bring hope and joy to others.
My retirement may not have been in my timing, but I am a believer that when a door closes- a window opens and God is good every day. Something better is always coming when life seems to throw you a curveball…or two…or three! My hobby has truly become my passion and it is a pleasure to fill my shop with lovely things I hope will capture the attention of someone who will enjoy it for years to come! 😊❤️
